1. MISSION:
(the strategy that will take us there)
To facilitate the inclusion, education, health and well-being of Hispanics / Latinos,
and to become advocates of Hispanic / Latino issues within a diverse society, while
promoting mutual cultural understanding, dignity, and respect".

2. VISION:
(the big picture of what we want to be)
"The inclusion and well-being of Hispanics / Latinos into a culturally diverse society
within the piedmont Triad and beyond".

Whereas the HLPT will facilitate inclusion through public gatherings, social and
cultural events and also through its monthly newsletter.

Whereas the HLPT will facilitate education by motivating individuals with role
models, awards, and scholarships.

Whereas the HLPT will promote the well-being in the Hispanic/Latino community
through the support of education, recreation, and various financial considerations.

Whereas the HLPT will promote advocacy of Hispanic/Latino issues by the direct
involvement in community association memberships, government and private sector
initiatives and participation on interviews concerning Hispanic/Latino issues.

Whereas the HLPT will facilitate good health through education, health providers,
and referral services.

3. CORE VALUES:
(the assumptions that guide our actions and are demonstrated by our behavior. Fulfilling
these obligations confirms our convictions and priorities. They are reaffirmed by what we
believe in enough to do – not just in what we say we believe
)

Assistance to the less fortunate: From the beginning, the HLPT was founded with the
idea of assisting Hispanics in need.  This value is demonstrated best by the giving of
Christmas certificates, support of the Hispanic Credit Union, emergency contributions
to those communities affected by disasters, and support of the free Dental Clinic at the
Iglesia Cristiana Wesleyana.

Education: Through motivation and rewards, we are constantly encouraging
individuals to achieve their highest potential.  This value is demonstrated best by the
annual ESL student's  awards, the creation of the scholarship foundation, and the
support of the Hispanic Credit Union.

Health and Wellness: We recognize the importance of the physical and emotional well-
being of each individual. For this reason we promote medical awareness and
immediate attention to those in need.  This value is demonstrated best by the support
of the free Dental Clinic, free booths at the annual "Fiesta" for the promotion of health
education, art support and referrals.

Promotion of Multicultural Understanding: "Lighting the Path for Better
Understanding" the purpose of our existence is to bring the communities together for
mutual understanding. We recognize that this is one of the most important ingredients
in living and working in a peaceful multicultural community.  This value is
demonstrated best by the annual "Fiesta," the "Cultural Awareness Week" at Barnes
and Nobles, and many workshops throughout the year.

Advocates for Hispanic/Latino Causes: We have been the voice of our community in
several ways, and we intend to continue to bring up issues that concern the
community we represent.  This value is demonstrated best by our monthly newsletter,
the arrangement to host the Mexican Consulate, and through the support of speakers
and panelists.

Inclusion: We have long recognized that in order to enjoy the benefits of the
established community, the Latino community must integrate, while maintaining its
identity, and ethnic pride.  This value is demonstrated best by the support of the
Iglesia Cristiana Wesleyana free Dental Clinic, school programs, our monthly
newsletter, Spanish Nite, and Fiesta.

4. OBJECTIVES:

Service: To coordinate community services and programs fulfilling the needs for
education, health, cultural awareness, communication and well being for the
Hispanic/Latino population.

Awareness: To promote mutual cultural understanding, dignity and respect of cultures
among the Hispanic/Latino community and the community at large.
