Bilingual Storytime
presents an hour of stories, songs, crafts, refreshments, and other activities for children and parents of different backgrounds. Once a month, participants come together to enjoy these activities as well as learn a little Spanish or English and meet new friends from their own or another culture. For Hispanic families this provides an opportunity to celebrate their own cultures while at the same time strengthen skills that are so important for success in this country: reading and English. Bilingual Storytime takes place at three different library locations: Southside Library, 3185 Buchanan Street, Winston-Salem, at 7pm on the second Monday of each month; Reynolda Library, 2839 Fairlawn Drive, Winston-Salem, at 7pm on the fourth Tuesday of each month; and Kernersville Library, 130 E. Mountain Street, Kernersville, 11am on the second or third Saturday of each month. The program is presented by professional storyteller and folksinger Jon Sundell, head of Forsyth County Public Library’s Hispanic Services department, and Carla Morales Clayton, the children’s librarian at Kernersville Library. Jon and Carla also chair the Hispanic League Cultural Events Committee. A number of volunteers from the HLPT Cultural Events Committee and the different libraries assist with this event. For more information call 748-3088 or the three libraries: Southside (771-4722), Reynolda (727-2948), or Kernersville (993-8141). |
